The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the images of new Rs 50 and Rs 200 notes in a gap of just 10 days. While, the new Rs 200 note is set to be issued today, one man from Lucknow has already claimed that he has the first Rs 50 note. According to a report by Bhaskar.com, Dr Raess from Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow has claimed that he got the first new Rs 50 note that was dispersed by a bank in India. While expressing his delight he added that this note looks like the old Rs 5 currency note.

Yesterday, a Mumbai man was seen in possession of the new Rs 50 bank note. An exclusive picture of the man with the new note has been accessed by The Indian Express. The government had hinted at releasing new Rs 50 note last year after the demonetisation move. Back then, the Narendra Modi government had declared the old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes invalid and had issued new Rs 2000 notes instead.

The new denomination Rs 50 banknote in the Mahatma Gandhi (new) series bears the signature of central bank governor Urjit Patel. It has motif of Hampi with Chariot on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage. The base colour of the note is Fluorescent Blue. However, all the banknotes in the denomination of Rs 50 issued by the central bank in the earlier series will continue to be legal tender. The dimension of the banknote is 66 mm x 135 mm.
