RBI MPC Meeting When and Where to Watch Live Streaming: The Reserve Bank of India is slated to announce the first bi-monthly monetary policy of the current fiscal on Wednesday amid growing buzz about a 25 basis points reduction in the short-term lending rate. The Monetary Policy Committee headed by Governor Sanjay Malhotra had begun its three-day deliberations on Monday. Several factors are under scrutiny — including the repo rate, liquidity conditions for the economy, as well as CPI inflation and GDP growth outlook.
US President Donald Trump sparked upheaval last week announcing sweeping ‘reciprocal tariffs’ against nearly all imports from more than 180 countries. The announcements gain additional significance amid growing fear of a trade war and global recession — with some analysts recently urging the RBI to announce a 50 bps rate cut. The MPC announcements will come on the same day that the hefty 27% levies announced by the POTUS will come into effect.
The central bank will make its official announcements during a press conference at 10:00 am on April 9. The outcome of the MPC deliberations will be shared by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra and closely watched by market participants.
The MPC had slashed the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.25% in February — the first reduction since May 2020 and the first revision after two-and-a-half years. Experts believe that the central bank will again reduce the rate by 25 bps on Wednesday against the backdrop of moderating inflation and the need to stimulate growth as Trump tariffs pose severe challenges to the global economy.
