Anil Baijal, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has given his approval to the Minimum Wages Bill on Friday. This decision of the LG comes after the approval of 37-per cent hike in the minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled persons in the national capital by the Arvind Kerjriwal government. The unskilled labourers that earlier used to get Rs 9,724 for their work will now get Rs 13,350, where as the semi-skilled labourers will now be paid Rs 14,698 instead of Rs 10,764 and the skilled labourers will get Rs 16,182 instead of Rs Rs 11,830.

All recommendations to revise the minimum wages have been cleared by a committee of 15 members that was set up by the former Lieutenant Governor Of Delhi, Najeeb Jung, CM Arvind Kejriwal said while announcing the LG’s decision according to an Indian Express report. While speaking at a press conference in February 2017 in Civil Lines, Kejriwal said that he hopes that the recommendations get the LG’s nod as all the rules have been duly followed.

On February 25, the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government had approved a hike of 37-per cent in the minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled persons in the national capital. This is the second time the AAP government has approved an increase in the minimum wages. The former LG had in September last year declared the recommendations of a government- appointed as “null and void”, saying the AAP dispensation did not seek his prior approval to form the panel.
“I hope the LG will clear them next week as we have followed all procedures. It will be the biggest gift for workers on the occasion of Holi,” the CM said at a press conference at his official residence in Civil Lines area. “There is a difference of Rs 600-700 between the recommendations of the two committees. We could have implemented the previous committee’s recommendations, but we did not want any fight with former Lt Governor.”
