At a time when the incumbent airlines have raised serious concerns about auctioning of unused bilaterals as well as substantial ownership and effective control, International Air Transport Association (IATA) director general Tony Tyler has also questioned the prudence of auctioning traffic rights in a recent interview.

Global airlines body IATA believes the auctioning of unused bilaterals would be an anti-competitive move.

“I feel one consequence would be the concentrating of market in a few powerful hands,” Tyler said.
