An accused in the coal scam case on Monday moved the Supreme Court seeking to restrain the CBI from further investigating the coal block allocation case allegedly involving Congress leader and industrialist Naveen Jindal and others.
CBI special judge Bharat Parashar had on May 20 allowed the agency’s plea to question and record the statement of the Jindal group’s chartered accountant, Suresh Singhal, another co-accused who has sought to turn approver in the case related to the allocation of Jharkhand’s Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block to Jindal Steel and Gagan Sponge.
An SC vacation bench headed by Justice P C Pant refused to give early hearing in the case after senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for chartered accountant and appellant Gyan Swaroop Garg, showed urgency in the matter.
Meanwhile, the CBI on Monday told the special court that it supported the application by Singhal to turn approver.
The court then put the matter for further hearing on June 6.
