Three national highway stretches — two on NH 3 in Madhya Pradesh and one on NH 163 in Telangana — totalling 334 km are to be converted into four-lanes at a total estimated cost of Rs 4,721 crore.

According to official releases, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the development of the Guna-Biaora and Biaora-Dewas sections of NH 3 in Madhya Pradesh on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis under the BOT (build, operate, transfer) mode.The cost of four-laning the 93.5 km stretch at R1,082 crore also includes the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities. The 141.26 km Biaora-Dewas section would  also be upgraded to four lanes at an approximate cost of R1,734 crore.

The CCEA also accorded approval the four-laning of the Yadgiri-Warangal section of NH 163 in Telangana.

This project would be build undertaken on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis at a total cost of  R1,905 crore. The total length of the road is around 99 km.

Cabinet nod for Saarc motor pact

The cabinet on Wednesday approved the signing of a motor vehicles pact between India and three other nations of the Saarc grouping — Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal on June 15, which will enable seamless transit of passenger and cargo vehicles among these nations.
