With the spotting of the crescent moon on Monday (March 11), the holy month of Ramadan began in India. Fasting for Ramadan began on Tuesday all over the country.
The sacred month marks a period of family get-togethers, religious reflection, and giving across the Muslim community. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims all around the world.
In Saudi Arabia, officials saw the crescent moon on Sunday night marking the start of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. Immediately, many Gulf Arab nations, as well as Sudan, Egypt, Syria, and Yemen followed the announcement to confirm they as well would begin fasting on Monday. Muslims in North America will also begin their fast on Monday. Leaders across the world shared greeting messages.
