"The PM is visiting foreign countries, but he does not go to the houses of farmers and labourers," said Gandhi who met cultivators who have suffered crop loss due to unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms. Asked by reporters how he would rate the NDA government's performance during first year in office, the Congress leader said, "If we talk of farmers and labourers, I will give zero out of 10 (to Modi government). (But) if some industrialists and corporate houses are concerned, I will give 10 out of 10." Aruna Shanbaug, a nurse at the hospital, existed comatose in the room since being subjected to a brutal sexual assault in 1973 by a ward boy, who tried to throttle her with a dog's chain, leaving her in a permanently vegetative state. Aruna Shanbaug, 66, who passed away yesterday, had become the face of a debate on euthanasia in India. The Supreme Court had, on a petition seeking mercy killing for Aruna Shanbaug, allowed 'passive euthanasia' wherein life support to a patient in permanently vegetative state could be withdrawn. Despite the court's verdict, the nurses had decided to carry on with their epic fight. Girls have once again outshone boys both in class X (ICSE) and class XII (ISC) examinations, results of which were declared today. The pass percentage in class X Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination stood at 98.49 per cent and 96.28 per cent in class XII Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination. While girls did marginally better in class X examination with a pass percentage of 98.95 per cent as opposed to 98.12 per cent in case of boys, they did far better than boys in class XII with the difference in pass percentage being over two per cent. The pass percentage of girls stood at 97.49 per cent as compared to 95.27 per cent in case of boys. (PTI) (18/05/2015) CBSE tightens rules: </br><br> Making the changing of names or date of birth more stringent, CBSE has issued a circular saying these could be done provided court orders are produced and the changes are notified in the government gazette before publication of results. So far, changes in name/surname or date of birth could be done by affidavit followed by advertisement in newspapers. However, the latest decision has been taken after careful consideration of hundreds of applications and "genuineness" of the requests, officials in the HRD Ministry said. </br><br> The Central Board of Secondary Education had in February this year issued the circular which also said no correction in date of birth shall be made after one year of the date of issue of the qualifying certificates. Further, all applications for correction in date of birth will have to be submitted to the CBSE chairman. (PTI) <br>Govt proposes age-relaxation for SSC exam:</br> The Centre is considering age-relaxation for candidates appearing in this year's Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) for recruitment to various Group B and C government jobs. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has already issued a notification for CGLE, 2015 and mentioned August 1, 2015 as the date of reckoning of age for the purpose of determining eligibility. "Government has received representations from a large number candidates. In this regard, a proposal to allow the candidates who fulfil the age criteria as on January 1, 2015, to also apply for the posts as a onetime measure, is under the consideration," a note by Department of Personnel and Training said. The scammers use a practice known as "caller ID spoofing" to make it appear as though they are calling from an official government department number. The callers claim to be calling from Immigration New Zealand and tell the person there has been a problem with the processing of their visa or arrival card information. They then demand money be paid into a Western Union account in India, The New Zealand Herald reported. When Principal Secretary (Services) Anindo Majumdar reached his office this morning, he found that it has been locked as per the directive from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's office. Majumdar was removed from the post by Kejriwal on Saturday after he issued the appointment letter to Gamlin following instructions from Jung. The LG, on the same evening, had declared the order to transfer Majumdar "void" saying it did not have his approval. "Mazumdar is likely to take up the issue of his office being locked with acting Chief Secretary Shakuntala Gamlin," sources said.
