On the outsides, the XC90 has more bolder and aggressive design. The headlights are sharp and sleek with T-shape LED lights in the headlamp cluster. The company calls this T- shape the ' Thor' Hammer Design. The logo has been given a stylish touch placed on a bar slashed diagonally on the front grille. Volvo has gone a step ahead and added a sleek chrome strip on the side of its car with Inscription written on it. This would only be there in the top end model.

The interiors of the car adhere to the neat and minimalistic Volvo design with the most superior quality which is bound to make you fall in love with it. A CleanZone package has been introduced for air purification and there are individual climate controls (four of them) for front and rear passengers. (CarDekho)

XC90 is available in both petrol as well as diesel engines, but in India they are just launching the diesel engine. The Volvo XC90 will get a 2 litre four cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a power output of 225hp and max torque of 470Nm. The engine comes mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox which powers all the four wheels and has a range of different driving modes. As of now, XC90 will be an AWD, Volvo may consider launching the petrol engine as well as FWD depending upon the response to the diesel model.

Safety of passengers has always been guaranteed by Volvo and the new XC90 is no different. It has added a Off-Road Safety feature wherein the seat belts brace the occupants, the shock energy is absorbed and seats provide a cushion when the car detects that it has come off road unintentionally. There is another feature which prevents front or rear crashes. Most of the technology is based on the radar, which is banned in India, so the models being launched in India will have radar based features disabled. But it does get ABS with EBD, SIPS airbags, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control apart from other features like Tire Pressure Monitoring and Park Assist.

Volvo XC90 will be competing against BMW X5, Mercedes Benz GL Class and Audi Q7 in the category.
