All berths in the new coaches will have reading lights and USB charging ports, said the report. In the new coaches, every cabin with eight berths will have two plug points and six USB ports. Also, Railways has installed special capacitors for the ports, keeping in mind passengers' habit to use their mobile phones while charging.

The special capacitors will make sure that the ports don't heat up, ensuring passenger safety. Railways has used inputs from a student of the National Institute of Design to upgrade toilets. The floor of the toilets in the new coaches is made of a special material which does not soil easily. The walls are also graffiti resistant.

Additionally, the steel mug chained to a pipe has been replaced by a faucet.(Express Photo by Vishal Srivastav) -
The coaches will have GPS-enabled screens at each end to provide passengers location related information. This feature is also available in the present Humsafar Express.(Express Photo by Vishal Srivastav)

IE reported a Rae Bareli Coach Factory executive as saying that one of the "hardest design challenges" involved re-doing the side-lower berth. Passengers often complain that when the two back rests of the side berths are lowered to make a berth, it makes for a very uncomfortable ride.

However, this complaint has now been addressed by Railways. A thin cushioned plank has been placed alongside the side-lower berth seats. When the backrests are joined to make a berth, the passenger just has to slide the plank up and put it on top of the joined backrests. This ensures a flat berth.(Express Photo by Vishal Srivastav) -
