Indian markets fell for the fourth straight session today with benchmark Sensex dropping 69.06 points to nine-week low of 28,192.02 on weak European cues and caution ahead of expiry of monthly derivative contracts.

The NSE Nifty index also edged down by 20 points to a fresh six-week low of 8,550.90.

Gold prices today fell by Rs 50 to Rs 26,450 per 10 gram at the bullion market due to subdued demand from jewellers and retailers amid a weak global trend. Silver also traded lower by Rs 400 at Rs 37,600 per kg on reduced offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

The Indian rupee today strengthened by 19 paise against US dollar in its sixth straight day of rise — its longest winning run since 2012 — to end at 62.27 on sustained selling of the greenback by banks and exporters amid foreign capital inflows.
