Himachal Pradesh is grappling with one of its worst monsoon-triggered disasters in recent memory. Since June 20, 2025, relentless rainfall has led to 23 flash floods, 19 cloudbursts, and 16 landslides, causing widespread devastation across the state. As of July 7, at least 78 people have been reported dead, 37 are missing, and over 115 have sustained injuries. Mandi district is the worst affected, with Thunag in Seraj Valley suffering a severe water crisis after floods swept away key water infrastructure.
Over 240 roads, including major highways, are blocked, while 278 water supply schemes and 243 electricity transformers lie damaged, cutting off vital services. The Jal Shakti Department is assessing damage, as rescue teams from NDRF and SDRF battle adverse weather and terrain.
The state has recorded estimated losses exceeding Rs 570 crore. With heavy rain forecasts continuing, red alerts remain in place, raising fears of further destruction.
