The Kabaddi World Cup is back! This time, it promises to surpass the high standards set by the previous one across the spectrum of activities that it entails from the matches, individuals to the very venues. Kick-starting the process on Tuesday was none other than cricket ODI World Cup winner Kapil Dev – presumably, if any sporting event in India is to be highlighted, then it needs the presence of a current or former cricketer or Bollywood personality. Be that as it may, at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai, the team jersey was unveiled and the captain named. (PTI)

Haryana raider Anup Kumar will captain the Indian side at the Kabaddi World Cup to be held in Ahmedabad from October 7. His deputy will be all-rounder Manjeet Chillar. In all a 14-member squad for the tournament has been named. The Indian team's head coach will be Balwan Singh and his deputy is E Baskaran. (PTI)

The Kabaddi World Cup will truly be a global event as there will be 12 national teams participating in the prestigious event including Iran, South Korea, Bangladesh, USA, England, Australia, Poland, Thailand, Japan, Argentina, and Kenya. Needless to say, in most of these teams, Indian origin players form the core of the players. (PTI)

The team jersey was unveiled by former cricket captain Kapil Dev at the Mumbai event. Kapil presented Anup a T-shirt that the cricketer had worn in Australia when Team India played its first limited overs contest there – it was also autographed by Kapil to add a really special touch. (PTI)
