Indian Railways' dream of running high-speed trains is all set to become a reality with Spanish company Talgo's coaches. Talgo is working on the Delhi-Mumbai railway section for introduction of high speed trains in India. Talgo's coaches are said to weigh much less than an average Indian Railways coach, and that is what the company claims will help it run trains at a higher speed on India's existing rail tracks. How do these Talgo coaches look? Here are seven details about Talgo's high-speed coaches and their India trial that you would love to know: (Image: Talgo) -
Talgo has brought its coaches to India and these will be integrated with Indian Railways' engine to run on tracks at higher speeds. The rake will be imported in knocked down condition and be assembled in India. (Image: Talgo)

The train coaches will undertake trial runs at speeds between 160 and 200 kmph on existing tracks on two routes — a route taken by Rajdhani Express (Delhi-Mumbai) and another non-Rajdhani route. (Image: Talgo)

The trial between Mathura and Palwal will go on for 25 days and the speed will go up to 180 kmph this time. (Image: Talgo)
-
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has said that the aim of the trial run with Talgo coaches is to reduce by 5 hours the time taken on the Delhi-Mumbai route. Talgo has brought its trains on an experimental basis for the project. (Image: Talgo)

If the Talgo train runs at speeds varying between 160 and 200 kmph on the existing infrastructure without any upgrade, the travel time between Delhi and Mumbai is expected to be cut down to about 12 hours from the current 17 hours. (Image: Talgo)
-
Besides reducing travel time, Talgo's lighter trains consume 30% less energy which will help railways reduce their power bill. Talgo claims that the coaches can run on higher speeds even on curves. (Image: Talgo)

Barring minor changes, there will be no need for overhauling the tracks for the trial run. Talgo trains are already running in several places in Asia and the US. (Image: Talgo) (With inputs from PTI)
