With the Budget 2016 imminent (just a couple of weeks before the Budget Session of Parliament starts) the sparring between PM Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has started all over again. Addressing tea garden workers in Assam, PM Narendra Modi alleged that 'one family was indulging in negative politics'. Within hours, Rahul Gandhi joined the battle, claiming that Modi’s job as prime minister is to run the government, not to make excuses.

In the last two sessions of Parliament, not much work was done, thanks to Congress party that was hell-bent on stalling operations. More of the same is in the offing during Budget 2016 if things don't calm down and the Indian economy becomes the focus of everyone's work rather than a narrow political agenda. (PTI)

So, instead of indulging in a low-brow debate, it is high time both parties involved showed a greater degree of maturity. What the people of India, be it farmers, middle-class, industry, SC/ST, OBC, want is a government that debates sensibly to get things done rather than argue over minor issues.

India needs politicking that is centred on development, not catering to the whims and fancies of politicians. India's 1.2 billion-strong population needs quick, smart decisions that can take the country to greater heights, not empty rhetoric.

The people do not care for emotions of the netas, what matters is faster economic growth in India. That can happen only when top-deck politicians show maturity. Considering that time is not on India’s side, the faster the debate levels improve, the better it is for the economy.
