Jaipur Literature Festival 2016: Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor today said he was disappointed at not seeing "significant progress" in the Swachh Bharat campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "There is no significant progress. We have not seen concrete progress, fund allocation, improvement of fundamental structure and schemes. The Prime Minister deserves credit for having raised the issue but the government is not confined to headlines," Tharoor said at JLF. Jaipur Literature Festival 2016: Best-selling author Amish Tripathi today said the prevalent caste system has become a "disgusting corruption" of ancient times when society was not segregated according to one's birth. "The caste system in the country today is a disgusting corruption of what it once was. In ancient times, most of the evidence points to the fact that the caste system was actually not rigid. It was not based on birth," Tripathi said. The author of the bestselling Shiva trilogy was participating in the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival here. Jaipur Literature Festival 2016: Choosing to play down the intolerance debate in India, actress Kajol today said there are no such dividing lines in Bollywood. "Our industry will always keep reflecting on what is happening in our society. It will keep on going and everyone is welcome. There are no dividing lines, no caste, no creed and no intolerance in Bollywood," she said on the third day of the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival. Jaipur Literature Festival 2016: Award winning poet Gulzar feels personification of the ailing environment will help people foster an intimate kinship with nature and enable them to take better care of it. "If you look around your environment, you'll see you're related to it. Jaipur Literature Festival 2016: Lyricist and Urdu poet Javed Akhtar today said writers should have the freedom to write about anything they want without fear of being judged. "If you feel like saying something, then you must say it. Thinking that certain things are correct and others are wrong is not right. Who is anybody to create a poster about what has to be written? Jaipur Literature Festival 2016: Noted writer and poet Ashok Vajpeyi today refused to take back the Sahitya Akademi award that he had returned stating that "intolerance levels remain high" in the country.
