After trying its hands at motorcycles, musical instruments and semi-conductors, Yamaha is now aiming to enter the sportscar arena. The company has put up its long-awaited car, Yamaha Sports Ride Concept, at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. The vehicle has been receiving quite a warm response from show-goers, chiefly because of the fact that it's the first four-wheel attempt by Yamaha, and a sportscar at that! We list down things that make it a really special vehicle:
-
1. Yamaha Sports Ride Concept is a 'everyday sportscar' due to its ultra light weight of 750kg. It's also quite compact with 3,900mm length, 1,720mm width and 1,170mm height.
-
2. Yamaha's two-seater sportscar employs the iStream – a process developed by Gordon Murray Design Limited to produce light-weight, high-rigidity vehicle structure rooted i Formula 1 technology. For people not in the know, Gordon Murray have designed Formula 1 and McLaren F1 supercar for Mercedes.
-
3. In line with the exterior, the vehicle's interior also looks quite sporty. The interior of the car is made of leather, carbon fibre and metal.
-
4. Though the Yamaha Sports Ride Concept will be the company's first sportscar (if it goes to production), the Japanese automajor has developed engines for some leading carmakers including Toyota, Ford, Lexus, Volvo, etc.
