Dalit killings: Gen VK Singh's 'dog' remark on Faridabad burning triggers outrage</br> Union Minister V K Singh kicked up a storm with his comments that the Centre cannot be blamed if somebody throws a 'stone at a dog' over the Faridabad Dalit burning incident, prompting opposition demands for his ouster. "For everything…like if somebody throws a stone at a dog, then the government is responsible…it is not like that," Singh said, while referring to the burning alive of a Dalit family in Haryana's Faridabad which left two toddlers dead. Rajiv Gandhi was against Pranab Mukherjee as PM </br> Pranab Mukherjee was favoured by late President R Venkataraman to be the Prime Minister after the fall of V P Singh government in 1990, but Rajiv Gandhi did not. This was revealed in "The Chinar Leaves" written by close aide of the Gandhi family M L Fotedar, who claims that when he met President Venkataraman at that time, he told him that Rajiv should support Pranab Mukherjee. However, "I requested him to invite Rajivji to head the next government as he was the leader of the single largest party in the Lok Sabha. On this the President directed me, that I may put it to Rajiv Gandhi that if he supported Mr Pranab Mukherjee to be PM, he (the President ) would administer the oath of office to him that same evening," Fotedar says in his book. "Rajivji was astounded by R.V.'s stand. Hardik Patel's intention was to wage war against Gujarat govt, says FIR </br> The 27-page FIR filed by city crime branch against Hardik Patel and five others under serious charges of sedition says that the young quota leader had allegedly instigated his community to adopt violent means to "wage war" against Gujarat government. The probe agency has put transcripts of various telephonic conversations and speeches of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) members and its convener Hardik Patel-where in they had allegedly instigated the agitators of their community to wage war against the state government. Dadri killing: 'Small episodes' cannot damage Hindu culture, says RSS chief Bhagwat </br> With Dadri-like incidents triggering outrage, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today said such "small episodes" cannot damage "Hindu culture" and praised the Modi government for ushering in hope and confidence in the country and enhancing India's standing abroad. In his annual Dussehra address at RSS headquarters here, Bhagwat hailed Dalit ikon B R Ambedkar for making provisions in Constitution to remove social and economic inequality faced by the weaker sections, a reference to the quota system, whose review he had recently suggested that pushed BJP on the backfoot in Bihar polls. Prez once again appeals to people to maintain unity, integrity </br> President Pranab Mukherjee today invoked Dussehra festivities to once again denounce rising incidents of intolerance and appealed to people to maintain India's unity and integrity and focus on nation building, leaving aside their differences. "Dussehra is a symbol of our ancient culture and we should forget our differences and work towards nation building. That will be our victory. I appeal everyone to maintain unity and integrity of the nation and contribute to the country's development," he said. The President was speaking at a Dussehra celebration at Parade Ground in Central Delhi where towering effigies of Ravana along with his son Meghnad and brother Kumbhakaran were set afire marking triumph of good over evil. BJP targets Sonia, Rahul Gandhi over 'black money' </br> Targetting Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today alleged that 'Young India', a company in which Congress President and her son are said to have majority stake, had borrowed a sum of Rs one crore from a firm which was allegedly involved in converting black money into white. Claiming that this was just the "tip of the iceberg", BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said at a press conference "the first family" of Indian politics should provide answers to questions being raised by them. The Congress, however, dismissed it saying that BJP was levelling baseless charges as it sensed imminent defeat in the Bihar assembly elections. Patra claimed that around December 2010 a company, 'Young Indian', in which Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have 38 percent shares, each was formed. (PTI)

Arvind Kejriwal leads cycle-rally to mark Delhi's 'Car-Free Day' </br> Hundreds of people, including women, were today led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a cycle-rally here between Red Fort and Bhagwan Das Marg to mark Delhi's first 'Car-Free Day', aimed at encouraging people to use public transport. Kejriwal rode bicycle from Red Fort to Bhagwan Das Marg and appealed to participants to make bicycle-riding a habit. "People should leave their vehicles and use public transport. Since pollution is increasing in Delhi, there is a need to run cycle which is also good for health," he said. The chief minister said he is a diabetic and riding bicycle benefits his health. (PTI)

Shiv Sena hits back at Arun Jaitley,says don't need lecture on tolerance </br> Irked by FM Arun Jaitley's remarks disapproving of its aggressive protests, Shiv Sena today hit back saying nobody should lecture Maharashtra on tolerance and claimed it is the only party which has "never betrayed people" for the sake of power. Taking a jibe at BJP, the ally said those in government should have supported Shiv Sena in its national mission of targeting Pakistan, but power corrupts one's mind. The Sena said governments have changed but issues of concern have remained the same. "In Kashmir, supporting Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and in Mumbai giving protection to a former Pakistan minister strengthens tolerance," it sarcastically said in an editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' said. AAP govt 'supersedes' Waqf Board, strips it of powers </br> AAP government has "superseded" the Delhi Waqf Board, transferring all its powers and duties to the Secretary (Revenue) in the city administration. "In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 99(I) of the Waqf Act, 1995, the Government of NCT of Delhi hereby supersedes the Delhi Waqf Board with immediate effect for a period of six months," said a notification issued by Revenue Secretary A Ambarasu on October 10, 2015. Rana Parween Siddiqui, Chairperson of the Board, said she has "filed an appeal in the Delhi High Court seeking quashing of the notification. The court will hear the case on October 30." (PTI)
