Aadhaar Card update: If you’ve misplaced your Aadhaar card or forgotten your Aadhaar number, there’s no reason to panic. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it simple for residents to retrieve their Aadhaar details — whether it’s the Aadhaar number (UID) or Enrolment ID (EID) — using online or offline methods.
Retrieve Aadhaar Online Using UIDAI Website
Those who have their mobile number linked to Aadhaar can easily retrieve their details through the “Retrieve UID/EID” feature available on the UIDAI website
.
To use this option, users need to select whether they wish to recover their Aadhaar Number (UID) or Enrolment ID (EID) and then enter their full name, registered mobile number or email address, along with the captcha code.
An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to the registered mobile or email for authentication. Once verified successfully, the Aadhaar number or EID will be sent via SMS. This service is completely free of cost and can be completed in just a few minutes.
Steps to Retrieve Aadhaar Offline
For individuals whose mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar, the process requires visiting an authorised Aadhaar Enrolment or Update Centre.
At the centre, users must provide details such as their name, gender, district, or PIN code. Following this, biometric verification — using fingerprint or iris scan — will be conducted. Once the system matches the data, the operator prints a copy of the e-Aadhaar letter, for which a nominal fee of Rs 30 is charged.
Another option is to contact the UIDAI helpline (1947). Callers can speak to a representative, share their demographic details, and if the information matches, receive their Enrolment ID (EID). In the next step, users can call again, use the IVRS option, and retrieve their Aadhaar number after confirming their EID, date of birth, and PIN code. This helpline service is available free of charge.
Lost Aadhaar Letter? Here’s What to Do
If you’ve lost your Aadhaar letter, visit any Aadhaar enrolment centre and provide your Aadhaar number or 28-digit Enrolment ID mentioned on your acknowledgement slip. After biometric verification, the operator will print your e-Aadhaar, for which a Rs 30 fee may be applicable.
UIDAI’s streamlined online and offline systems ensure that users can easily regain access to their Aadhaar credentials without unnecessary delays or paperwork.
