Indian benchmark indices wrapped up today’s session in the red. The Sensex closed at 83,409.69, down 287.60 points or 0.34%, while the Nifty settled at 25,453.40, slipping 0.35%. The Nifty Bank also lost ground, ending the day at 56,999.20, down 0.80%.

In the Sensex-30 basket, Tata Steel, UltraTech Cement, Maruti, Trent, and Bharti Airtel emerged as the top performers.

Key Drags: HDFC Bank, Bajaj twins under pressure

On the flip side, Bajaj Finserv, L&T, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, and Bharat Electronics were among the key laggards, dragging the indices lower.

HDB Financial makes a splash on debut

One of the biggest highlights of the day was the listing of HDB Financial Services, marking the largest IPO of the year so far and also the biggest issue in the NBFC space. The stock debuted at a 13% premium, opening at Rs 840 per share and taking its market cap to Rs 69,625.5 crore. With this, HDB has become the eighth most valuable NBFC in the country on listing day.

Top sectors in today’s trade

In today’s session, several sectors stood out with gains. The tyres sector led the way with a 2.5% rise, followed closely by agriculture and horticulture stocks, which gained nearly 2%. The electronics segment was also in the green, adding 1.5%, while iron and steel and cement sectors posted gains of 1% each respectively.

Best and worst performing business group in today’s trade

Across business groups in today’s market, on the positive side, Nagarjuna Group saw the biggest jump with a nearly 5% rise, followed by gains in Raunaq Group (3%), Poddar Group (3%), and GMR Group (3%). However, some groups faced pressure such as Essar Group slipped 2.5%, Shriram Group, Indiabulls Group, and Jindal BC Group ended down 3% each.
