IPO Scorecard for September 2023; Track gains since listing

September shall go down in history as one of the most remarkable months for the Indian equity market in 2023. The benchmark indices hit unprecedented highs as the NSE Nifty 50 crossed the 20,000 milestone and touched a fresh high of 20,222.45, while the Sensex achieved a remarkable feat of 67,927.23 on September 15, 2023. The month has also witnessed the opening of several IPOs and their subsequent listing on the bourses.

The market, however, witnessed a trend reversal as volatility hit its peak towards the end of the month, primarily due to the continued withdrawal of foreign investors from the Indian market. Nevertheless, the benchmark equity indices ended September’s last trading session with gains.

“Despite the market remaining in a weak zone in the month of Sept-23, primary markets witnessed the busiest month raising money by the way of IPO’s. Healthy markets in the months of July-23 and August-23 boosted confidence in the primary market and raised the ability to raise fresh funds. I believe factors that drove the subscription and performance post listing were on the back of decent ask valuations leaving healthy room for listing gains backed by strong domestic liquidity demand, favourable macroeconomic trends, investor sentiment and long term business outlook,” said Prashanth Tapse Sr VP Research Analyst, Mehta Equities. 

Among the other companies that have made their debuts on the exchanges, RR Kable has performed the best, as its share price surged 19.64% from its listing price of Rs 1,180 to Rs 1,413.70 to date. The other stocks that have done well include Jupiter LifeLine Hospitals, with its price surging 10.81% from its listing price of Rs 973 to Rs 1,078, Rishabh Instruments, with a surge of 9.86% from its listing price of Rs 406.05 to Rs 505.50, Sai Silks (Kalamandir), with a rise of 9.77% from its listing price of Rs 231 to Rs 253.70, and Signature Global, with a gain of 8.31% from its listing price to Rs 481.15 till date.
