The GIFT Nifty implied for a negative start. The Asian indices are trading in the red following an overnight fall in the US stock market due to Trump’s 25% auto tariffs. 

Previously, on Wednesday, the NSE Nifty 50 closed the session 182 points or 0.77% lower at 23,487, while the BSE Sensex declined 729 points or 0.93% to close at 77,288.

Asian Markets

Asia markets were trading on a lower note as investors weighed U.S. President Donald Trump’s 25% tariffs on auto imports. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was trading 1.15% lower at 37,585. The Asia Dow was trading 0.13% lower at 3,722.29. South Korea’s Kospi was down 0.90% at 2,620. The Shanghai Composite was trading 0.16% lower at 3,363.

US markets

The Wall Street declined on Wednesday as Trump’s auto tariffs mounted worries. The S&P 500 fell 1.12%, closing at 5,712.20. The Nasdaq Composite lost 2.04%, ending the session at 17,899.01. The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 133 points, or 0.31%, to close at 42,455.

US dollar 

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was slightly down 0.09% at 104.46 on Wednesday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee appreciated 0.07% to close at 85.71 to the dollar on March 26. 

Crude oil

The crude oil prices rose on Wednesday. WTI crude prices were trading at $69.71 up by 0.10%, while Brent crude prices were trading at $73.85 up by 0.07%, on Wednesday morning. 

FII, DII data

Foreign institutional investors (FII) were the net buyers of shares worth Rs 2,240.55 crore. Meanwhile, the Domestic institutional investors (DII) were the net sellers of shares worth Rs 696.37 crore on March 26, 2024, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.

Gold rate today

The 24-carat gold price today is selling for a price of Rs 88,100 per 10 grams, near its all-time high of Rs 89,140. The rate of gold has fallen by 1.16% in the past one week and jumped by 2.62% in the last one month. The 22 kt gold rate today is Rs 80,758 per 10 grams. The 18-carat gold price today is Rs 66,075.
