Travel portal TripAdvisor has come out with the ‘Top New Year Destinations’ based on the places searched from India for the
period December 20, 2014 to
January 10, 2015. As per the list, Goa has topped the list of destinations in India where most people want to head to usher in the New Year.
The coastal state is followed by Dubai, Udaipur (Rajasthan), Manali (Himachal Pradesh) and Jaisalmer (Rajasthan),
the report said.
Nikhil Ganju, country manager, TripAdvisor, says: “Getting out of the city to bring in the new year has been a trend for a long while now. As a large number of Indians get ready to pack their bags and travel to destinations known as well as offbeat, TripAdvisor brings you the definitive list of the places that they will be travelling to.”
While Goa remains a favourite, this year’s list includes a healthy dose of international destinations, indicating the importance being attached to the occasion. What is most interesting to see is how the accommodation preferences have evolved over years. Up to 41% travelers prefer to stay in hotels of different kinds whereas 23% prefer bed-and-breakfast inns for their new year holiday.
Also, the experimentative side of Indian travellers is clearly emerging with a significant share of 36% opting for ‘alternate’ accommodations such as campgrounds, condos, vacation rentals, hostels, villas and even temple lodgings, among others.
