The ongoing dispute between India and Maldives has captured widespread attention. Social media is abuzz with a flurry of comments, with trending hashtags such as ‘MaldivesOut’ and ‘UninstallMakeMyTrip’ gaining momentum on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Amid all of this, travel agency EasMyTrip has stopped accepting bookings for Maldives on its platform and urged airlines and other portals to join them.
What did EaseMyTrip say?
In a video posted by ANI on X, EaseMyTrip Co-founder Prashant Pitti could be heard saying that the platform is a homegrown and Made in India firm. He said that based on what they have been seeing online and the comments shared by Maldives representatives, the platform will now not accept bookings for Maldives.
He claimed that each year, around three lakh people from India visited Maldives each year.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Lakshadweep, he said the Prime Minister showed the country that India has better locations than Maldives. He further requested airlines to have direct connectivity to Lakshadweep from cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi.
To promote tourism in Lakshadweep, Pitti said EaseMyTrip has unveiled five new packages. Furthermore, he expressed the platform’s desire to make Ayodhya and Lakshadeep international destinations.
The video ended with him saying that businesses must think of the nation first.
In a post on X through his personal handle, Pitti wrote, “Nation-First is the craziest offer we could think of going live with!”.
