Moto series smartphones cross 3-million sales milestone in India

Motorola and e-tail partner Flipkart on Thursday announced that they have sold over 3 million smartphones in the country.

Almost a year after it came back to India with its Moto series of smartphones, Motorola and e-tail partner Flipkart on Thursday announced that they have sold over 3 million smartphones in the country.

Motorola India GM Amit Boni said the company will soon launch its first exclusive experience zone in Bangalore, but “without a retail element”.

The company is also experimenting with mobile Moto care vehicles that will reduce the time taken to complete a service request, he added.

Michael Adani of Flipkart said while the e-tailer started by delivering Moto phones in 200 cities, they were now reaching over 1,100 locations and more than 1,250 cities with partnerships. Flipkart has over 30 million registered users with 10 million unique visitors every day, translating into 8 million shipments a month. The company has 30,000 employees in India.

“Since the launch we have seen a paradigm change in the Indian market. Phones used to come to India late and the Indian customer was expected to pay more for the phone. We have changed that, now the phones come in at the same time and often cost less than that in the rest of the world,” added Adani.
