Casio G-Shock Mudmaster GW G-100: Stylish and sturdy watch

A stylish and sturdy watch that provides instant access to direction, barometric pressure, and temperature information when needed under tough conditions

Let’s face it, the watch is more than an accessory. If I may put it in subtle terms, it reflects one’s personality. For instance, the more practical man may opt for a leather strapped Tissot watch. If you are movie-crazy, then Invicta is for you, touted as the most requested brand in Hollywood. And if you an outdoor person involved in tough and rough activities then the Casio G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-1000 is for you. Casio officials reckon that it is a watch engineered for tech loving men to bring out the tough in them. It carries a retail price tag of R35,995. In my opinion, this Casio piece is designed to cater to the needs of today’s dynamic men who want toughness coupled with innovative technology. Is it worth its steep price tag? Let us find out in our review.

At the outset, let me say that the G-Shock GWG-1000 is perhaps Casio’s best looking piece from the G-shock collection, it has a high quality design that you would love to have on your wrist. The dial window is sapphire crystal that you couldn’t scratch even if you wanted to. It runs on solar power, so it never needs to be charged manually and the battery never needs to be replaced.

The size of the face and the Casio G-Shock GWG-1000 watch in general is quite big, but not too overwhelming. I have a medium size wrist, therefore initially I found it a bit awkward to wear but trust me, over a period of some time, you’ll get used to it. I have been wearing it for the past two weeks and let me admit that it’s quite a head turner.

The time piece combines advanced technology, strength, design, and style. Take for instance its Triple Sensor capabilities. This provides instant access to direction, barometric pressure, and temperature information when needed under tough conditions. Basically, its Triple Sensor technology provides a compass using the seconds hand on the face, altitude measurements, atmospheric pressure and even the temperature.

The compass and altitude readings have their own dedicated buttons, which come in handy if you enjoying hiking or mountain climbing. The Mud-Resist construction ensures that nothing gets into the watch when you take a deep plunge into the dirt and sludge. In simple terms, it is dust, water and mud resistant.

This Casio timepiece features Multiband 6, which automatically adjusts time settings based on reception of time calibration signals around the globe, that is, Japan, China, US, England, and Germany. Basically the dial has the abbreviations of major cities around the world indicated so you can easily switch time zones with the click of a button. Illuminated by a double LED light, the face of the watch is protected by a sapphire crystal to ensure high visibility.

All in all, the G-Shock GWG-1000 is a stylish watch to the hilt and worth every penny.
