With the rising cybersecurity and online scams, certain apps and search engines seem to be under the red alert zone. Amidst this, the Government issues a ‘High’ risk warning for Google Chrome web browser.
According to CERT-In which is a government cybersecurity research team, there are vulnerabilities in some of the web versions of Google Chrome. The team mentioned that they have found several security flaws in it.
Is Google Chrome web safe?
As reported by CERT-In, the security flaws can attack users’ devices remotely. The report explains that security flaws can allow scammers/fraudsters to break into a user’s device. After getting access to these devices unknowingly, they can drain or manipulate the data remotely. Thus, eventually creating personal losses or misuse of data for illegal activities.
So, how does this flaw work? The security flaws allow Chrome to let attackers run ‘arbitrary code,’ on the affected devices. Even if your device is secured, the flaw can break that. This eventually lets attackers get access to every data stored in the device. This can include both sensitive data such as location details, banking details and health related details, among others.
So, what are the Chrome versions that can be affected by these security flaws? Reportedly, the security flaws in Chrome can affect the early Chrome versions. These include the 128.0.6613.119/.120 for Windows. In addition to this, the Mac Google Chrome versions prior to 128.0.6613.119 for Linux can also be impacted.
