Realme GT 6T Review: Realme GT 6T: Fully loaded

Realme has launched its first GT phone—Realme GT 6T—in two years. In the tech industry, that’s a really long time. It hits you even hard when you realise, these phones used to be a staple from the company, at one point of time. Whatever happened? We may never know. But at last the sabbatical is over now. And the wait was mostly worth it. It feels like Realme never left the space.

For those unaware, the GT series is built around the premise of performance and design. These phones tend to offer stand-out aesthetics—the Realme GT 2 Pro famously came with a paper tech master design—and a near flagship-grade processor paired with some intricate cooling.

The Realme GT 6T has both these areas covered. It’s rocking a new nano mirror design with a mix of glossy and matte glass finishes. It’s a bold look. Powering the phone is Qualcomm’s “fastest” Snapdragon 7-series chip, aka the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3. The Realme GT 6T in fact is the first phone to launch in India with this 4nm processor. Realme pairs it to a 9-layer cooling system with a 10,014mm2 3D tempered dual VC (vapour chamber cooling). The back of the phone is made of unspecified glass.

Realme GT 6T: Fully loaded

This is our first stint with the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 and it holds up well. What’s impressive (besides the impressive benchmark scores) is that Realme has put in a lot of work to not only eke out the best performance, it has given equal thought to stability. No matter the benchmark, whether CPU Throttling or 3DMark Wildlife Extreme, the results were outstanding—in this scorching Delhi heat might we add. Realme sent us the top-of-the-line 12GB/512GB variant. This particular version, the company say, uses LPDDR5x RAM and an “overclocked” UFS4.0 storage and so, performance gains should be notably higher (compared to the base variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage).

Running the show is Realme UI 5.0 based on Android 14. The amount of bloatware appeared to be “balanced” in our unit but one thing that caught us off guard was how similar the UI looks next to a OnePlus phone rocking OxygenOS— apart from a few extra apps, they are an exact word-by-word copy (but that’s good news for Realme mostly, we reckon). Realme is committing to three years of major OS and four years of security updates.

The Realme GT 6T has another ace up its sleeve. Its screen can get very, very bright. The phone uses an 8T LTPO AMOLED panel (1-120Hz) which has a local peak brightness of 6,000 nits, which is frankly overkill, but should help minimise glare in this hot and sunny Delhi weather. The screen is tall—6.78-inch—has a resolution 1.5K, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. So, all top-notch stuff there. The bezels are slim and symmetrical. Dolby Vision playback is supported. Biometrics are handled by an in-screen fingerprint reader.

Powering the Realme GT 6T is a fairly large 5,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging baked in. The phone supports Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6 and 5G connectivity.

Last but not the least, cameras on the Realme GT 6T are mostly a forgettable affair. The phone has a dual camera setup with a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-600 primary sensor paired to an f/1.88 optically stabilised lens. A good thing about it is that it can shoot 4K@60fps videos, which is not very common on many midrange phones. It is joined by another 8-megapixel ultrawide. The front camera is a 32-megapixel (Sony IMX615).
