Apple fans, mark your calendars! The tech giant is expected to unveil the much-anticipated iPhone 16 series during its ‘It’s Glowtime’ event on Monday, September 9. While we’re all eager to see what’s new, the question on every Indian Apple fan’s mind is: when will the iPhone 16 go on sale in India? A new Apple Store opening in Sweden might just provide a clue.
Apple recently announced that its brand-new retail store at the Mall of Scandinavia near Stockholm will open its doors on Friday, September 20. Coincidentally, Apple typically launches new iPhones in stores on the second Friday after their announcement. This strongly suggests that the iPhone 16 series will hit shelves globally—including India—on the same day, September 20.
Why Sweden? Apple permanently closed its Väla Centrum store in Helsingborg this past July, but with the Mall of Scandinavia grand opening, the company will still have three retail locations in Sweden. And this store launch perfectly aligns with the speculated iPhone 16 release date.
Apple has even shared exclusive wallpapers for iPhone, iPad, and Mac to celebrate the new store’s opening, further fuelling speculation about the connection to the iPhone 16’s release.
Rumour has it that the iPhone 16 lineup will feature four models, with the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus getting some hardware upgrades that could enable AI-powered features previously reserved for the Pro models. Speaking of Pro, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are expected to come with larger displays—6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively.
Another rumoured addition is a dedicated camera button for the Pro models, though it’s unclear if this will replace the existing Action Button. While the iPhone 16 series may offer incremental updates this year, we could see bigger changes with next year’s “iPhone 17 Slim.”
