WhatsApp recently introduced its Channels feature and now it is working on ways to improve this feature. There are several reasons why WhatsApp is putting so much focus on Channels these days. First, the chat company wants to break the barrier of being limited to a chat app as it aims competes against the likes of Telegram, Snapchat and some of its siblings such as Instagram and Facebook. WhatsApp sees Channels as the way to expand its reach and make its platform a popular choice for organisations and businesses. This will help company generate more revenue from WhatsApp Business.
Coming back to what new is coming to Channels, WaBetaInfo in the recent update to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.20.11, has spotted a new feature that adds the ability to regulate the automatic removal of channel media from your device.

Within the upcoming update, users will find a dedicated “Channel Settings” section, offering greater control over the images and videos shared via WhatsApp Channels. By default, WhatsApp will not immediately delete channel media from users’ devices, with the default setting being “Never.” However, this could result in a buildup of channel media on users’ devices over time, potentially causing storage-related woes.
Additionally, this update also reveals the integration of a white top app bar within the channel settings section. With the introduction of this feature, users will no longer need to manually manage their channel media to free up their storage space on device. An automatic option will soon be at their disposal. The report highlights that any deleted media will be re-downloaded upon the user’s re-entry into the channel.
This feature is customisable for each Channel allowing users the flexibility to enable or disable it according to their preferences. The exact release date of this feature remains unknown but there are chances that it may come soon.
