You might soon protect your WhatsApp username with a PIN lock.According to WABetaInfo, the company is planning to add PIN lock for its username feature.
Reportedly, WhatsApp is planning to add a new security feature that will allow you to add a PIN for protecting your WhatsApp username (WhatsApp identity or profile) .
WhatsApp adds PIN-based security
WABetaInfo,a feature tracker, has reported that the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.2. has a PIN support for creating usernames. A few days earlier the company was working on creating a ‘username’ feature to keep your identity hidden. Just like Discord, this feature allows you to hide your real name and go by a ‘pen-name’. Notably, Discord is a VoIP social and an instant messaging platform. So, while creating a username for WhatsApp you can add a PIN lock to it.
WhatsApp aims to create an added layer of security to prevent WhatsApp based scams and other cyber fraud. But how does this PIN feature help you to protect your identity? So, Username PIN is similar to the profile PIN/ security lock that we usually have. But the new feature is a step ahead. With this feature unknown contacts will not be able to contact you. For example we often receive unknown texts/spams, which is quite irritating. Now with the upcoming PIN feature, no one can send you such messages unless they are in your contacts.
Furthermore, the feature tracker explained that you can also choose who can see your username or numbers on WhatsApp. Interestingly, even if someone has your username they will also need the PIN. Unless and until you share the PIN they won’t be able to contact you. An extra layer of security right!
Other updates
WhatsApp, which is a social network completely based on the idea of connecting through contact numbers, plans to add a ‘username’ feature. On July 22, WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp is working on a new feature ‘username.’ Just like Discord, you can now create usernames to hide your phone numbers. This will allow you to create unique names for your profile. You can use these usernames to chat with different people without actually exchanging contact numbers.
However, WhatsApp is yet to announce the exact date for publicly rolling out the feature. WhatsApp is still at a developing stage for the upcoming feature. So, as of now it’s only available in the WhatsApp for Android Beta.
