You might soon be able to share WhatsApp chats with other apps, as Meta plans to roll out a third-party messaging feature. Meta explained in an official blog that it’s coming up with a third-party chats update.
The company wrote in the blog that it wants to create a third-party chat experience on Messenger and WhatsApp. With this update you can not only share chats but can also share both video and audio calls requests.
Meta to introduce third-party chats
Meta explained that this new strategy comes after the Digital Markets Act (DMA) made it compulsory to make apps interoperable. According to the DMA, people using WhatsApp and Messenger in Europe need to include third-party messaging services. The technology giant further explained they were already in the research stage on how they are going to introduce third-party chats.
Additionally, Meta will also introduce notifications that will inform you about third-party chats. Also, the new update will simplify the onboarding flow of users, providing a guide on how to use the new feature. You can learn more about the details of using third-party chat by using this guide. In addition to this you can get other options also such as selecting where you want to get messages and how to manage your inbox. For example you can either get a combined inbox for both WhatsApp and Messenger, or you can have a separate one linked to each other.
Meta claims that they not only plan to make both Messenger and WhatsApp interoperable, but also aims to make it secure. The company said that they have created a technical solution that will focus on preserving security and privacy for you. However, the final dates for rolling out the feature in India is not announced yet. Initially the updates might come in European countries and later on India.
