WhatsApp seems to have started rolling out the Events feature in WhatsApp groups. Reportedly, you can now plan events, discuss schedule details, and confirm RSVP status with other members in your WhatsApp contacts.
According to sources initially the feature was only available in WhatsApp communities and now it has been extended to regular WhatsApp Groups.
WhatsApp Events Feature available to all
According to WhatsApp’s official blog the Events feature in WhatsApp will allow you to create an interactive message, similar to a calendar invite. Also now you can mention details such as date, time, and location. Other group members can respond to the message to confirm their attendance.
In addition, replies from other users are only visible inside the interactive message. It eventually makes it easier for all members to track the responses. Now you don’t need to manually search for individual replies in an entire chat. The event’s message can also be pinned in the chat, WhasApp explained in its official website.
However, the feature is currently under a phased rollout and will soon be available to all WhatsApp users worldwide. It looks like events will be accessible to both stable and beta version users. Initially, it will be available on WhatsApp app and is expected to arrive on WhatsApp Business soon.
How to use WhatsApp Events Feature
So how can you create your event in a WhatsApp group? Given below is a detailed step on how you can.
- Open WhatsApp on your mobile device.
- Open a group chat. Then, on Android, tap the attachment icon. Meanwhile, on iOS, tap the plus icon.
- Tap Event.
- Enter the event name, date and time.
- You can also add an event description, location, or call link.Event descriptions can be up to 2,048 characters. Call links can be added to events up to 1 year in advance.You can add links from other platforms in the description.
- Tap the Send icon or Save option.
After creating an event, how can you edit an event? This is how you can:
- Tap Edit event.
- Make your changes. You can edit your event name, date and time, location and description.
- Tap (only event creators can edit)
Future plans
Reportedly, WhatsApp is expected to be working on a feature that will allow you to add replies in Community groups. With the proposed feature admins can get feedback from group members. These responses can be added directly to a single message instead of the chat. However, WhatsApp has not yet disclosed the rollout timeline for this feature.
