WhatsApp is reportedly preparing to introduce a long-anticipated feature that will let users sign out of their accounts on their main device without needing to permanently delete their account. The latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (v2.25.17.37) has revealed a new sign-out option currently undergoing internal testing or development. Currently, the sole option provided is account deletion, which leads to the complete removal of all user data.
Located under the app’s Settings > Account section, this functionality is not yet available to regular users. However, its presence suggests that WhatsApp is aiming to enhance user control by expanding account management features.
The upcoming logout feature will offer users three distinct options: “Erase all Data and Preferences,” “Keep all Data and Preferences,” and “Cancel.” Choosing the first will remove all conversations and settings from the device, whereas the second enables users to preserve their information for future logins. The third option simply exits the logout process without making any changes.
With this new feature, WhatsApp users will be able to regain access to their accounts and immediately retrieve their saved messages and media files upon signing back in.
Adding a logout option would align WhatsApp with other messaging apps such as Telegram and Signal, which already allow users to sign out temporarily. This functionality would be particularly useful for individuals handling more than one account or for professionals who need to alternate between personal and business profiles.
