Vivo takes on Xiaomi, Samsung with X100 Ultra phone with world’s largest telephoto — Details

The Vivo X100 Ultra features the same 1-inch main camera equipped with Sony’s LYT-900 sensor as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

Vivo has launched its most powerful camera phone—Vivo X100 Ultra—rival to Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Interestingly, it features the same 1-inch main camera equipped with Sony’s LYT-900 sensor as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra but the star of the show is the periscope camera which uses the largest telephoto sensor ever put inside a commercially available smartphone.

The X100 Ultra has a 50-megapixel main camera with a 1/0.98” LYT-900 sensor with an f/1.75 aperture and 23mm focal length. The main camera offers 1.5-degree hardware stabilisation and OIS using a gimbal setup. This is paired to a 200MP periscope camera with a 1/1.4″ ISOCELL HP9 sensor with an f/2.67 aperture and an 85mm equivalent focal length. The periscope lens offers up to 3.7x optical zoom and a telephoto macro mode capable of 20x magnification, complemented by CIPA 4.5 telephoto stabilisation. Vivo’s ongoing partnership with ZEISS brings Zeiss T* coating and Zeiss APO certification. There is another 14mm equivalent ultrawide camera with a 1/2″ 50MP LYT-600 sensor in the X100 Ultra.

The X100 Ultra debuts Vivo’s BlueImage algorithm, who was apparently eight years in the making. Its purpose is to minimise common photography challenges such as backlighting and low-light detail preservation. Additionally, the X100 Ultra is also getting Vivo’s V3 Plus imaging chip for enhancing 4K portrait video recording and processing.

The X100 Ultra can record up to 4K 120fps videos.

The X100 Ultra boasts of a curved 6.78-inch E7 LTPO AMOLED display with 1440p resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The panel can top 3,000 nits. Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage. Running the show is Vivo’s OriginOS 4 based on Android 14. The phone is further backed by a 5,500 mAh battery with 80W wired and 30W wireless charging support.

The X100 Ultra starts at CNY 6,499 (roughly Rs 76,500) and is exclusive to China at the time of writing.
