Truecaller update brings AI powered spam call blocking to these users.

Truecaller, the Swedish caller identification app, has rolled out an update for its premium subscribers on the Android platform. This update empowers users to block all incoming calls that are not from approved contacts or identified as spam by its artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

With the latest ‘Max’ update, even calls not listed in Truecaller’s database are automatically blocked if recognised as spam, as reported by TechCrunch. Previously, the app relied solely on its database for blocking or implementing restrictive measures.

In a bid to improve its filtering capabilities and attract more premium subscribers, Truecaller aims to address the growing nuisance of spam calls and scams. The premium subscription, starting at Rs 75 per month or Rs 529 per year in India, offers enhanced features including spam call blocking.

It’s important to note that the spam-blocking update is currently exclusive to Android, as Apple’s policies prevent apps like Truecaller from automatically blocking calls based on spam identification on iPhones.

Earlier this year, Truecaller introduced an AI-powered call recording feature in India, providing transcription and call summaries exclusively to premium subscribers. By leveraging AI technology, Truecaller aims to streamline call experiences, allowing users to focus on conversations without the need for detailed note-taking.

Furthermore, Truecaller is making significant strides in the Indian market with its AI products. In October, it acquired Bengaluru-based Unoideo Technologies, known for its fraud detection service TrustCheckr. TrustCheckr’s SaaS platform helps businesses verify customer information and mitigate fraud risks using phone numbers and digital signals.

Truecaller boasts 356 million active users and over a billion downloads since its inception in 2009. The platform claims to have identified and blocked nearly 50 billion unwanted calls in 2021 alone, underscoring its commitment to combating spam and enhancing user experience.
