Truecaller alert for iPhone users: No call recording from September 30, here’s what to do next

Truecaller’s call recording feature on iPhones was notably distinct from its implementation on Android devices, largely due to the restrictive nature of Apple’s iOS platform.

Truecaller has announced that its popular call recording feature will cease to function on iPhones starting September 30, 2025. The decision comes as Apple has introduced its own native call recording capabilities in newer versions of iOS, thus rendering Truecaller’s solution useless. The new update has prompted Truecaller to shift its focus towards enhancing core features such as Live Caller ID and automatic spam call blocking.

The call recording method previously employed by Truecaller on iPhones involved a complex and costly process of merging a recording line with ongoing calls. With Apple now offering an integrated solution, Truecaller aims to refine its offerings and concentrate on areas where it can provide maximum value to its iOS users.

Why was call recording costly on iOS?

Truecaller’s call recording feature on iPhones was notably distinct from its implementation on Android devices, largely due to the restrictive nature of Apple’s iOS platform. Unlike Android, which allowed for more direct integration with call functionalities, Truecaller’s method on iPhones involved a more intricate process.

This typically required users to merge an ongoing call with a dedicated Truecaller recording line, a workaround designed to circumvent iOS limitations. While it provided the desired functionality, this complex implementation was often associated with higher operational costs for Truecaller compared to more straightforward recording methods available on other mobile operating systems.

With native call recording now available, it makes no sense for Truecaller to keep its more expensive solution lingering around.

Action for iPhone users: How to save your existing recordings

Truecaller has advised all iPhone users using the call recording feature to back up their existing recordings before the September 30 deadline, as all data will be permanently deleted thereafter. Users can follow these steps to save their valuable conversations:

– Open the Truecaller app on your iPhone.

– Navigate to the “Record” tab.

– Tap on the “Settings” icon.

– Select “Storage Preference” and change it to “iCloud storage.”

–  If the iCloud storage option appears disabled, you will need to manually enable it by going to your iPhone’s Settings > Your name > iCloud > Saved to iCloud > Turn on Truecaller.

– To download specific recordings, return to the “Record” tab and swipe left on the recordings you wish to save.

– Tap on the “Share or Export” option, and the app will provide choices for where you want to save the recording, such as local storage or other cloud services.
