OnePlus is gearing to launch the OnePlus 12 in China on December 5. Two days later, sister brand Realme will launch its competitor smartphone, Realme GT 5 Pro, with great potential to give the “12” a run for its money. At least that is what all its confirmed and speculated hardware specifications seem to suggest. The only catch, you may not be able to buy it as easily as the OnePlus. Realme’s GT phones, especially the newer pro models, are hard to come by in international markets, outside of China, and that is a big bummer.

Anyhow, as is usually the case with these product launches, Realme has been drip-feeding information to entice its would-be customer base, hyping the Realme GT 5 Pro big time ahead of the phone’s grand unveiling on December 7.

One of the biggest draws would be the choice of chip. The Realme GT 5 Pro is set to take on the “biggies” with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 paired with up to 1TB of storage and, as per reports, up to 24 gigs of RAM— much like the OnePlus 12. Realme has confirmed base configuration will start at 12GB/256GB. We’re expecting top-shelf cooling to tame the Qualcomm beast, but we’ll have to wait and watch out on that.

The other big spec reveal is linked to the phone’s display. The Realme GT 5 Pro again takes on the OnePlus 12 (and possibly matches it too) with an “8T LTPO Pro-XDR” 1.5K resolution display with up to 144Hz refresh rate and a whopping 4,500 nits of local peak brightness (1,600 nits global), sourced from BOE.

Then there’s the 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 3x telephoto that will also, apparently, offer 6x lossless and up to 120x super zoom. And so, needless to say, that’s something to look forward to, too. Realme will reportedly pair it with a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-T808 primary sensor (seemingly the Chinese industry’s current heartthrob) behind an optically stabilised lens and another 8-megapixel ultrawide.

Rounding off the package will be a 5,400mAh battery with 100W fast wired and 50W wireless charging, according to reports. But perhaps the biggest USP would be the price at which Realme would sell this package. Rumour has it that the Realme GT 5 Pro will start at a crazy CNY 3,499 which roughly translates to Rs 41,200.

The OnePlus 12 may run away with a lot of the hype in the coming days, as it should considering what’s in store and the fact that more people will be able to buy it, but the Realme GT 5 Pro seems as promising— if not more— and so don’t know about you, we would be keeping a close eye on it.
