If you’re an iPhone 14 Plus user experiencing problem with your rear camera preview, Apple has just announced a new service program to fix at no extra charge. Apparently, some iPhone 14 Plus units, specifically those manufactured between April 10, 2023, and April 28, 2024, may have rear cameras that fail to show a preview when taking photos. If your device is one of them, Apple is offering free repairs.

iPhone 14 Plus service program – How to check if you’re eligible

Apple has made it easy to check if you fall under the purview of its iPhone 14 Plus service program. Simply head over to the program page—available on support.apple.com—and enter your iPhone’s serial number. For those unaware, your iPhone’s serial number can be found by going into Settings > General > About.

If your iPhone is eligible, you can visit Apple directly or head to an Authorised Service Provider to get your camera issue fixed without any charge. If you’ve already paid for a camera repair related to this issue, you may be able to request a refund as well, Apple has announced.

“Apple has determined that the rear camera on a very small percentage of iPhone 14 Plus devices may exhibit no preview. Affected devices were manufactured between April 10, 2023 to April 28, 2024,” Apple writes on the program page, adding that “If your iPhone 14 Plus has exhibited this issue, Apple or an Apple Authorised Service Provider will provide service, free of charge.”

Such free service programs are rare but they are not new. Previously, Apple has run similar programs, such as when it found certain iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models exhibiting receiver issues or when the AirPods Pro were reported to emit a crackling sound. Typically, these programs cover repairs on affected devices for three years from the date of their original sale.

The iPhone 14 Plus was launched in 2022 as the first plus-sized iPhone in the modern-day iPhone era replacing the mini from the line-up. Since then Apple has launched a new plus model every year—the most recent being the iPhone 16 Plus—while mini is lost but not surely forgotten.
