Telegram rolls out new features for wearable collectibles, channel gifting, blockchain transfers

Telegram’s latest update introduces new features like wearable collectible gifts, blockchain integration, and gifting to channels, enhancing user personalisation and interaction.

Telegram has introduced a series of six new features in its latest update, aimed at expanding the platform’s gifting capabilities and enhancing the collectible experience for users. Among the changes are the ability to wear collectible gifts as emoji statuses, transfer gifts to the blockchain, and send gifts to channels, among other improvements.

Wear collectible gifts as emoji status

One of the most notable additions allows users to display their collectible gifts as an emoji status. This means users can now show off a gift in their profile with a glittering star effect, adding a personalised touch to their Telegram identity. For example, if a user has a rare collectible gift, it can be worn as a status, giving others a glimpse of their unique items. To activate this feature, users must go to the “Gifts” section in their profile, select a gift, and choose the “Wear” option. When users no longer wish to display the gift, their profile reverts to its original look.

Gifts on the Blockchain: Permanent ownership

The latest update also brings a significant step towards decentralisation: collectible gifts can now be moved to the TON blockchain. This functionality gives users permanent ownership of their gifts, even if they lose access to their Telegram accounts. For example, if a user owns a collectible gift, they can now transfer it to their TON wallet and auction it off, giving it value outside the app.

Sending gifts to Channels

Telegram has expanded its gifting functionality beyond individual users, allowing gifts to be sent to channels. This could be particularly useful for content creators, charities, and businesses who want to celebrate milestones or connect with their audience in new ways. When sending a gift to a channel, subscribers can upgrade it with Stars before sending. Channels, in turn, can transfer, auction, or resell gifts via the blockchain.

New Story sharing and gift filters

Another enhancement includes the ability to share collectible gifts in Stories. This allows users to showcase their rare gifts with an animated preview, potentially attracting more attention to their collection. In addition, Telegram now offers filters on channel profiles to sort gifts by various factors such as value, collectible status, or whether they are part of a limited edition collection. This makes it easier for channel owners and followers to navigate through gifts. With these changes, Telegram is further embedding collectibles into its ecosystem, offering users more ways to showcase, trade, and interact with virtual gifts.
