Samsung has announced the Galaxy A16 5G, a new affordable midrange smartphone with a record-breaking six years of software support. The phone in question is already listed in Europe confirming key specs and design. The company has separately confirmed that the Galaxy A16 5G is coming soon to India as well.
“By providing an unmatched 6 generations of OS upgrades and 6 years of security updates in its segment, Galaxy A16 5G is set to redefine the value proposition in India’s smartphone industry and deliver unmatched experience in mid-range smartphones, enabling users to enjoy the latest features over a long period of time,” Samsung said in a release sent out to media today.
The Galaxy A16 5G—per its listing in Europe—will ship with Android 14. Samsung is known to offer up to seven years of software support among flagship phones. Some of its midrange Galaxy A series phones also offer extended support. But this is the first time, a smartphone of the Galaxy A16’s price class, is getting such a treatment.
Elsewhere, Samsung says the Galaxy A16 5G—soon to launch in India—with a premium Galaxy A-series design with the signature ‘Key Island’ aesthetic in a choice of Gold, Light Green, and Blue Black, IP54 rating, Super AMOLED display, MediaTek processor, and a triple camera system.

Per the product listing, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is set to come with a 6.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and waterdrop-style notch. Evidently, the processor is getting an update. The European version of the A16 has the Exynos 1330 but in India, Samsung is switching to a MediaTek, Rumour has it that it would be the Dimensity 6300. Memory configuration is 4GB RAM and 128GB storage, although India specifications could be different. Powering the A16 5G is a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.
The back holds a triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel, 5-megapixel ultrawide, and another 2-megapixel macro. The front camera is a 13-megapixel.
