After Apple, Samsung is all set to adopt AI on a large scale by hiring an Apple veteran who designed Siri. Reportedly, Samsung hires former Apple executive Murat Akbacak to lead its newly formed AI-oriented division, as per a report by Bloomberg.
Samsung plans to create a new entity called the North America AI Centre. This combines the teams in Toronto, Canada and Mountain View, California, and should improve operational efficiency.
Samsung hires an Apple veteran!
Looking at the competitive AI space, Samsung is all set to ‘pull-up-socks’ for its AI journey. By hiring the mind behind Apple’s Siri, Samsung plans to boost its AI stack.
Bloomberg reports that Samsung Electronics will be streamlining its North American AI research efforts. Furthermore, it has decided to merge two of its research centres in a bid to focus all of its efforts on developing its own, in-house artificial intelligence systems. The new venture is all set to be headed by Murat Akbacak
Future plans!
It looks like Samsung’s ‘big AI’ plans come just after Apple decided to ‘be big on AI’. Apple has made some significant strides in expanding its AI capabilities, as it showcased at the WWDC 2024.
Experts suggest that Samsung’s plan to bring the AI mastermind has the potential to be a great example of the increasing aggressiveness of major technology companies in a bid to win what is being called the AI space.
Earlier at Apple, Akbacak played an important role in shaping the strategy for Siri, focusing on personalisation and contextualisation. He had also played a key role for the various breakthroughs Apple made in their own conversational and multimodal AI. He had also worked on voice assistants at Microsoft a decade ago. This extensive experience in AI and voice recognition technology seem to position him well to lead Samsung’s efforts to enhance its AI services and products.
