Samsung Galaxy S25 series is expected to break cover at the highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event, likely to be held on January 22, 2025. The new series, like all other previous series, is expected to include three models, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra leading the charge.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is anticipated to feature significant upgrades in several key areas, including performance, camera, and display. With the new model poised to build on the success of its predecessor, tech enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting what Samsung has in store for its top-tier smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: What to expect

  1. Powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset: One of the most significant upgrades for the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be the inclusion of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. This is the flagship processor for 2025, powering all variants of the phone. While this new chipset promises better performance and efficiency, it is expected to bring a price hike as well.
  2. Design changes: Curves over sharp corners: In terms of design, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is likely to sport a new look with more curves, departing from the sharp corners seen in previous models. Leaks suggest that the design will resemble that of the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Ultra. The device will feature a 6.8-inch display with a resolution of 3120×1440, but one of the most impressive upgrades will be the screen’s maximum brightness, which is rumoured to reach an outstanding 3,000 nits.
  3. Bixby update: Another exciting development is the integration of Large Language Model (LLM) support into Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant. This upgrade, already available in China, is expected to roll out globally in January 2025. The enhanced Bixby will offer advanced conversational capabilities, positioning it as a strong competitor to Google Assistant’s Gemini. With this upgrade, Bixby will also support image generation, making it more versatile for everyday use.
  4. Camera setup: Familiar yet powerful: The Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to see no major changes in the camera department. The primary camera will still feature a 200MP sensor (Samsung ISOCELL HP2), ensuring high-quality images and improved low-light performance. The telephoto lenses include a 12MP 3x zoom lens (Sony IMX754) and a 50MP 5x zoom lens (Sony IMX854), while the front-facing camera will be a 12MP sensor (Samsung ISOCELL S5K3LU) for sharp selfies, per reports.
  5. Battery and performance: No major changes: The battery for the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to remain at 5,000 mAh, like the Galaxy S24 Ultra. No significant changes in terms of battery capacity or charging speed are expected, but the improvements in chipset efficiency and software optimisation may lead to better overall battery performance.
