Samsung’s new Galaxy F55—launching in India today—boasts familiar hardware wrapped inside a “chic” vegan leather design. Spec-wise, it is virtually identical to the Galaxy M55, launched not that long ago. It has the same screen, the same processor, the same set of cameras, and the same battery. Samsung is also committing to the same level of software support—four years of major OS and five years of security—which is second to none.
So what makes the Galaxy F55 different? The long and short answer is this—it has a new back panel design. In the press note shared with the media, Samsung says the Galaxy F55 is the first F-series phone to have a vegan leather finish. Vegan leather, for those unaware, mimics the look and texture of leather though it not it, really. Faux leather is the best way to describe it. Normally, it’s a layer infused on top of plastic and that’s the case with the F55 as well.
The Galaxy F55 will come in a choice of two colours—Raisin Black and a very fetching Apricot Crush. The idea with these vegan leather phones is to offer a sense of luxury/premium. Affordable mid-rangers like the Galaxy F55 make it a bit more accessible. That’s really the point of this smartphone anyway.
