Samsung announces TVKey Cloud technology.

Samsung has introduced a new technology called ‘TVKey Cloud’ that lets you watch live and on-demand TV without the need for a set-top box. The technology has been developed in collaboration with Nagravision to provide a clutter-free, seamless, and modern TV experience on existing smart televisions with the caveat that it works only with select Samsung TVs.

The TVKey Cloud technology is designed to simplify live TV viewing. By eliminating the need for set-top boxes and additional cables, users can access live and on-demand content with just a single Samsung Smart TV remote, the company said in a statement sent over email. You’ll need Samsung’s 2023 and 2024 Connected TV models, including Ultra HD, OLED, QLED, and Neo QLED TVs, to access it.

With its built-in set-top box functionality, TVKey Cloud supports broadcast, hybrid broadcast-OTT, and OTT-only services. This convergence allows service providers to deliver high-quality content directly to the TV, ensuring a seemingly unified and sophisticated viewing experience.

At the core of TVKey Cloud is its on-chip security, which ensures premium content protection, according to Samsung. Embedded directly into the TV’s chipset, this feature safeguards intellectual property and long-term content investments. All users need is an internet connection—broadband, 4G, or 5G—to authenticate live TV signals fetched via cable or DTH antenna.

Currently, TVKey Cloud is available with GTPL and Dish TV in India, enabling service providers to offer live broadcast and on-demand content with minimal hardware.
