Samsung has announced two new budget-friendly smartphones, the Galaxy M16 5G and Galaxy M06 5G, for the Indian market. The M16 and M06 will launch in India on 27th February with “segment-leading” features, Samsung said in statement shared with media today. The dedicated product listing page on Amazon India confirms flat panel design and dual cameras for the Galaxy M16 and M06 5G.

“Samsung is all set to expand its popular Galaxy M series portfolio with the launch of Galaxy M16 5G and Galaxy M06 5G,” the company was quoted as saying. “Designed for young consumers, Galaxy M16 5G and Galaxy M06 5G smartphones will offer an impressive combination of style and cutting-edge innovations.”

Samsung hasn’t revealed any hardware specifications in today’s announcement. The only hardware detail shared, or rather teased, is that the M16 and M06 5G duo will offer a “refreshed colour palette” and “enhanced finish.” The phones will be sleek and lightweight but to what end, remains a mystery. The M06 is of special significance because it should bring 5G connectivity to the masses. Its predecessor, the Galaxy M05, was 4G only. It came in at Rs 7,999 for the sole variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It was powered by the MediaTek Helio G85 processor and had a 5,000mAh battery.

The Galaxy M16 5G meanwhile will be sequel to the M15 5G which came in at Rs 12,999 for 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. It had the MediaTek Dimensity 6100 Plus and a 6,000mAh battery under the hood. The key USP of this phone however was Samsung’s long-term software support. It was among the few budget smartphones eligible to get up to four years of major OS and five years of security updates. The Galaxy M05, too, had a decent commitment of two years of major OS and four years of security updates.

Something similar will be expected from the Galaxy M16 5G and Galaxy M06 5G as well though whether or not Samsung will recreate the same support guarantee with these phones, is something only time will tell. Watch this space for more updates.
