Reliance Jio could be launching the all new Fiber to the Home broadband service. According to a report in Teleanalysis, the broadband service could get unveiled in June this year. The report cited sources familiar with Jio’s plans, who had informed that the company is conducting various trials in many cities across India. After the deep impact in the telecom market, it seems that the home broadband market (fibre-to-the-home (FTTH)) too will face aggressive competition. The report does not come as a surprise, as even Reliance Jio’s website features a mention of the Jio broadband and DTH services, which provides an indication of its plans. According to the Teleanalysis report, the company will offer at least 100Mbps for the home broadband consumers, and the plans will likely be priced at affordable rates.
Meanwhile, according to reports in the recent months, Reliance Jio has been working on this service in cities like Mumbai, Pune and Chennai. Also, reports have suggested that even Vodafone India is also bent on entering the sector after acquiring wired internet provider YOU Broadband. Earlier, there were several reports which said that Jio’s Fiber service will offer almost 1GB per second speeds with its broadband internet for homes. There were reports that Jio had sent out invites to residents of various societies to try out their broadband service. That kind of a speed would have completely changed the market, but we will have to wait to see what it will be.

The broadband and DTH service is now showcased in the ‘Quick Pay>Recharge’ section of the Jio website. However, users cannot click or use it as of now. This means, one thing is for sure, that the broadband service will arrive, but how soon it will be, remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, if Jio and Vodafone enter the $2-billion wired broadband market, it will challenge the dominance of BSNL and Bharti Airtel. These two control more than two-third of the space. According to a report in the TV channel ETNow, Jio may also partner with video streaming websites like Amazon Prime and Netflix. Jio has already partnered with Indian video streaming website Hotstar, which will enable users to view the platform from their set-top-boxes.
