Google at its Made by Google event 2023 unveiled a range of products among which was the new Pixel Watch 2. The new Pixel Watch boasts several upgrades; however, some of these enhancements have made it challenging to find suitable cases for the device. Precisely, certain hardware changes have rendered the original cases incompatible with the new watch.
The overall design changes that Google has introduced to the Pixel Watch 2 are necessary to deliver the best performance experience. However, these changes now also mean that Pixel Watch 2 owners will have to buy a new watch case to protect their device. Despite the visual similarities between the original Pixel Watch and its successor, existing cases designed for the first model won’t fit the Pixel Watch 2.

Brands that sell Pixel Watch cases online have updated their product listings to explicitly state that their cases are “not compatible with Pixel Watch 2.” Brands such as Spigen and Caseology have also acknowledged the disparities between the two models.
According to a 9to5google report, the primary reason for this lack of compatibility lies in the hardware adjustments, particularly concerning the crown, on the Pixel Watch 2. The modifications to the crown and buttons have made most existing accessories meant for the original Pixel Watch incompatible. The new crown is slightly larger, and there are differences in the configuration of the second button. The microphone cutout has also been relocated to the opposite side of the watch.
