Oppo launched the Reno 11 series in India today. There are two phones, Reno 11 and Reno 11 Pro. Per usual, the Chinese smartphone maker is going to great lengths to highlight its portrait photography strides on these new smartphones fueled by proprietary imaging algorithms and whatnot. Take away all the marketing mumbo jumbo, and you’ll find, the Reno 11 and Reno 11 Pro are actually the Reno 10 and Reno 10 Pro with new back panel design and a couple of tweaks here and there. The Oppo Reno 11 series basically applies a fresh coat of paint on last year’s specs.
Oppo Reno 11 series— old wine in new bottle
Take the choice of chip for instance. The Reno 11 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 in India. It is a step up from the Reno 10 Pro’s Snapdragon 778G, but it pales next to the Chinese Reno 11 Pro with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor. The India-bound Reno 11 Pro in fact has the same chip that powers the Chinese Reno 11. And so, if you’re wondering, what’s the Indian Reno 11 getting, well, it’s getting an even less powerful Dimensity 7050, which is same as the Reno 10 before it.
The battery capacities also remain unchanged from the Reno 10 Pro and Reno 10 which is to say that the Reno 11 Pro has a 4,600mAh battery while the Reno 11 has a 5,000mAh. Fast charging speeds are a do-over as well: 67W for the Reno 11 and 80W for the Reno 11 Pro.
The display stats are identical, too— 6.7-inch 1080p AMOLED with 120Hz refresh rate and Dragontrail Star 2 protection.
The camera specs are a bit of a mixed bag. The Reno 11 Pro has the same cameras as the Reno 10 Pro— 50-megapixel main Sony IMX890 sensor behind an optically stabilised lens, 32-megapixel IMX709 RGBW 2x telephoto, and another 8-megapixel IMX355 112-degree ultrawide. The front camera, which is 32-megapixel, is also the same. The only big change— on paper— is that the Reno 11 Pro’s front camera can record 4K videos (@30fps) whereas in the Reno 10 Pro, this was limited to 1080p. And so, it goes without saying that Oppo will be banking heavily on its “proprietary imaging algorithms” to set its new phone apart from the old one.
As for the Reno 11, it swaps the Pro’s main camera sensor with a LYT600 (also 50MP) and front IMX355 for an OmniVision OV32C (also 32MP) while keeping the same ultrawide and telephoto.
The software, luckily, is latest. Both phones are running ColorOS 14 with Android 14 and are promised to get three years of major OS and four years of security updates.
Oppo Reno 11 series price, availability
The Oppo Reno 11 Pro comes in sole 12GB/256GB configuration for Rs 39,999. The Reno 11 comes in a choice of 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB at a price of Rs 29,999 and Rs 31,999, respectively.
As is usually the case, the Reno 10 Pro has received a Rs 2,000 price cut leading into today’s Oppo Reno 11 series launch and so, it is currently selling for Rs 37,999. Not unless you really want that new MediaTek chip, the Reno 10 Pro just became more attractive. As for the Reno 10, Oppo no longer lists it on its website anymore suggesting the company might have discontinued it, but if you manage to snag it at a lower price (on Flipkart, it is still selling for Rs 32,999 for 8GB/256GB), you should definitively pick that up.
As for the Reno 11 series, it is abundantly clear that Oppo’s bigger priority was to keep its pricing consistent with the Reno 10 series and while the new design and latest software are appreciated, we’re not sure last year’s specs can keep up with the likes of Poco X6 Pro and Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 13 series.
The Reno 11 Pro will start selling from January 18, while the Reno 11 from January 25 across online and offline stores.
