As OpenAI starts its ‘Shipmas,’ the artificial intelligence (AI) company announces the release of an updated version of o1. Notably, o1 is OpenAI’s new series of AI models designed to spend more time thinking before they respond. This reportedly makes it provide deeper insights and error free answers to your questions.
In an official release, OpenAI announced that o1 is out of preview in ChatGPT. It also highlighted that starting from today o1 will be accessible to ChatGPT Plus and Team users globally. Let’s have a look at what more it brings to you.
Introducing updates O1: What’s in for you
The company is releasing the full version of its o1 model (replacing o1-preview). The old o1 model code-named as ‘Strawberry’ was initially released as a limited preview in September. Now OpenAI said that the new model will be available for Plus and Team users. For the Enterprise and Edu users, the model will be available from next week.
OpenAI claims that compared to o1-preview, you can now expect a more powerful, faster and more accurate. Also, the model could be better at coding and math. It can also provide “reasoning” responses to images. And OpenAI promises it’s been trained to be more concise, which should result in faster response times than o1-preview.
As of now, o1 is available in the API with new capabilities. This includes function calling, vision, developer messages, and structured outputs.Thus, eventually enabling enhanced interactions with external systems.
Other notable highlights
In addition to the new version of o1, OpenAI has also brought other updates. It has unveiled ChatGPT Pro for professionals who need research-grade AI intelligence at scale. ChatGPT Pro can be defined as a new $200 subscription model which allows limited access to the top OpenAI’s models and tools. You can also get unlimited access to GPT-4o, OpenAI o1 and Advanced Voice. Also you get access to the version of o1 which is only exclusive to Pro users.
Furthermore, the AI giant also announced a ChatGPT Pro Grant Program to support breakthroughs in fields benefiting society. OpenAI will be awarding 10 grants of ChatGPT Pro to medical researchers at leading institutions. It also plans for additional grants across various disciplines.
